city stars
she yelled to come in
the screen door banging
in finality with her demand
but how could I?
I was out with the stars
city’s summer haze
clogging the night sky
I could not come in
to the bright filtered light
of indoors
where my feet
are nailed into the hardwood boards
hammered in by the worries for tomorrow
because out here
beneath the droplets of galaxy matter
I fly
watched by so many eyes

What a lovely poem! Yes, it does seem like outside under the stars we are carefree and unburdened. Love “droplets of galaxy matter.”
So many beautiful images and phrases here! You really had me with “I was out with the stars,” and each successive line unfolded more wonder, like fireworks, like “droplets of galaxy matter.” Wow!
Loved the juxtaposition of the outdoors with the stars and the filtered light of the indoors with its worries for tomorrow.
