Coaptation
on a poem by Ocean Vuong
the day-orb slides cock-
sure as a yolk into a light-
lusty horizon scratched & marred
by Timothy grass, by solitary Jeffrey
pine its desiccant bark corroded to
russet as ancient waves slap rock spitted
sand far below this cliff while behind
a peel of moon peers from clouds
shape & shade of detritus
lobotomy of swollen cumuli
& hills are pewtered in water-
thin white & that feckess moon
tries to lord-verb itself over
distant forests gentled to midnight-
green burned obsidian shadows celloing
indistinct as a chorus of butterflies

I thought this was wonderful. Great words, sounds, lines.
Thanks for the feedback! A note about the poem – I misplaced the title of Ocean Vuong’s poem, but I was intrigued by the lines which said “I have not used these words” and then he listed the odd assortment – which of course I had to use in MY poem! Quite the challenge but a fun on! A new kind of poetry prompt!
I really enjoyed your sound play! And imagery.
Thanks both Shaun and Melva Sue for your encouragement! Write on!!
