Conquerors of Yards
Hail to the mowers of lawns
And loppers of limbs.
Hail to the trimmers of shrubs.
We revel in halting plants grow.
We trim the grass,
Whack stray branches,
And tame the unruly bushes …
We fertilized six months ago.

The pokeweed with those relentless roots vanquished me last month. Kudos to you for the poem and the victory.
Thank you for creating/maintaining beauty, in yards and poetry!
Yardworkers truly are conquerors; it’s not an easy feat to fight off overgrowth and weeds with a green thumb. Great work!
I love this expression of the great American pastime: The Lawn (or for some, The Yard)
We hasten their growth only to lop off their heads! As a long-time “conqueror” (although nature always won!) I appreciate and delight in this poem.
Right! The endless cycle.
