Courage
Sometimes I want to tell you every thought that crosses my mind,
but I imagine laying it all out
would look a little like the possum’s guts
splayed across the highway tonight —
a useless sacrifice,
carnage unrequited.

I love this poem. The title suggests the risk is taken anyway.
Exactly! Great use of image, well written.
So much yes.
You lay it out there, like opossum guts road kill. That does take courage at times.
