I Wish I Didn’t Cry at Movies, But Here We Are
-after Everything Everywhere All at Once
Even movies where the dog
comes home make me cry. Best friends
parting for the Grey Havens?
I’m done. Two rocks rolling off
a cliff: boring, right? Until
you say one is a mother
tumbling to save her daughter;
then my throat clenches at each
jolt that smashes them to dust.

We’re lucky that you watch movies…and cry, and then tell us why.
Thanks, Greg!
What a great entry into a poem — the title and the reference to the movie. And this really got me:
Until
you say one is a mother
tumbling to save her daughter;
then my throat clenches at each
jolt that smashes them to dust.
Thanks, Linda! (Here’s where it turns into a movie recommendation—lol—if you haven’t seen that movie, you should because it’s way better than my little poem)
I agree, the metaphor in your last few lines is heartbreaking and beautiful.
Great title and poem. Your humor is delightful:
Even movies where the dog
comes home make me cry. Best friends
parting for the Grey Havens?
I’m done.
And the turn subtle and deft:
Two rocks rolling off
a cliff: boring, right? Until
you say one is a mother
tumbling to save her daughter;
then my throat clenches at each
jolt that smashes them to dust.
Love this! I was just crying at Freedom Writers yesterday because the way the teacher had her desks lined up reminded me of my freshman reading classes at SK. 🙂
Sweet! Of course, poets think this quality makes you great!
