Dance Lessons
Neatly dressed
Hair in place
Boys in ties
Girls with soft white gloves
We form a circle
Under the ballroom chandelier
Boy, girl, boy, girl
Taking turns, exchanging partners
Waiting for that moment
My hand in yours
Yours in mine
Your smile, your smell
Touching through gloves
The fire in our hearts

Beautiful craft. Beautiful writing. Brings two memories to mind: first, Stephen Stills’ “Change Partners” rhythmic lilt
and gentle lyricism; and second, a dear one whose dance aspirations died due to accident on way to audition for Trisha Brown. Keep on writing.
Such joy to read your writing this month. May you journey well, Jess
