Deafness Runs in the Family
You’re speaking,
and I’m missing words.
Every third, I reckon,
slipping through the gap in
the window’s sill, or
the door I left ajar.
Wherever lost words go,
your’s have gone and left me
trying to fill in the gaps
with wadded pages torn from
a faded student copy
of Webster’s Dictionary —
yellowed, dog earred, I used
as a door stop.

Great way of representing partial deafness. I have some of it myself.
Thank you, Kevin. I’m sorry you’re experiencing it, too. Life’s little hurdles.
I relate! Very thoughtful rendering of a difficult subject.
Thank you, Linda!
This perfect visual storytelling!
Thank you, Linda. The spacing was kind of an afterthought. Glad you liked it!
Beautifully done!
Agree with Kevin “Great way of representing partial deafness”.
feel the ache in this “Wherever lost words go,”
and love the strength in that last stanza.
As always, thank you for your kind words, Pam.
