Dog Speaks
i looked into the deep brown eyes of a sad basset
he paused ~ breathed lightly with a heavy sigh
tilted his head ~ eyes reaching up to heaven . . .
i look at my new friend and wonder what it’s like
to live in a shorter than short world . . .
with a keener than keen snout . . .
he cocks his head and begins to speak . . .
“You know, we teach people how to treat us . . .” he drools
looking into his eyes i smile . . .
“thank you Mr. Basset, i shall remember your wisdom!”
“You can call me Bogie . . .”
“Thanks Bogie!”

Imaginatively perceptive. Love the lines: “to live in a shorter than short world . . ./ with a keener than keen snout.”
Thank you Larry, your words cheer me on!!! Glad you are on this LexPoMo ride!
I agree with L. Sipe! I love the repetition there and how it leads us to his insights.
Thank you Shaun, I appreciate your comments they give me wings to fly with words . . . sandcastles in the sky!
Love this poem. Reminds me of the dogs I meet on walks. And that second stanza is terrific.
Thank you Mary Allen, it was fun to meet this fella today! Such wisdom if we just will stop down and listen . . .
