Drawing Chuck
How do I draw you shy nightjar
cousin to whippoorwill? You sing
your name non-stop: chuck-will’s-widow:
lusty chant for mate and territory colors
my dark by tallow tree, lullabies sleepless
nights to blue daybreak beginnings.
Your voice is you to me.
How do I draw you, Chuck?
I draw you deep
in the hollows of my heart
in the marrow of my bone.

I like this poem a lot, especially that Refrain at the end!
Thank you, Rena. I just breathe that beautiful song in and relax.
This is beautiful, Pam. So many scrumptious lines.
Thank you, Nancy– what a voice he has! Working on another little poem about Chuck.
Beautiful, Pam. Touching.
Appreciate your kind words, Dick. Hope I did his voice justice.
“colors/my dark by tallow tree.” I love the sounds!
Me too! Took me awhile to get work to them.
A lovely conceit of your relationship with our friend Chuck!!
