Emily Carr’s “Laughing Forest,” 1939
Orange, red, green trees
veined with yellow, gold
vibrate, shake as with a lavish belly-laugh
that resonates in waves
like wind, like water on shore
the quiver of being
growth to death to rot
nourishing the next birth
the ground, the sky, everything between
caught in the trembling net

Karen, this is just lovely. With repeated sounds in words like “veined” and “vibrate” and “lavish.” Each stanza is gorgeous, and the structure works very well.
Thanks, Taunja!
And thank you for including the painting–wow!
It’s all life!
