False Promises
False Promises
Sierra Nevada, 2019
Thaw
shrugs off
its ice coat
frees the slipstream
to blade granite leaves
apart, cleave mottled stone.
Rocks tumble from the dark, spark
stars rappelling down moon-slick’d peaks.
The mountains release their captive light
at dawn, the insincere promises of Sierra spring

Brigit – Love the form and the content. Glad to have you back with fists full of new poems! Great images and title.
This was inspired by the fact that the Sierra still have snow on the peaks, even though it’s mid-June! Beautiful to see from air and land.
Visually the poem looks so good on the page. Love the surprise ending.
thanks Linda for the response! It’s always good to have feedback!
