Feral
Running barefoot through the woods
Stepping on briars and brambles but
Without much of a care in the world
Feet cut all up, still whooping loudly
A feral Appalachian child, wild and
Free as the birds in the sky above,
All summer long in the hills of my
Eastern Kentucky home; oh to be
Just another wild creature in the
Cool of the woods, no cares at all

“Just another wild creature in the woods” is so wonderful, we need to reclaim those wild parts of ourselves more often!
We really do!
N.D.is right we need to claim those wild parts
100%!
Sounds like heaven! I loved the imagery and how it is connected to wild space, home place, love of land and nature.
Thank you! I wish I could spend my days now like I did as a kid, running wild in the woods.
