Helpless Pride and Hopeful Stagnation
The moon is sawed straight in half, velvetted
All else draped in orange glow
I think I messed up
my caffeine intake
with only one delicious cup
of honey infused Mexican beans
sipped at Pemberton’s greenhouse
sweat drenching my clothes
I planted 3 big pots in the afternoon
of hot peppers and bush tomatoes
they look so small and hopeful
I’ve arranged small geodes and witches stones
around them, to help retain water and kill weeds.
The week is moving by too fast
while I lay in bed
with a belly ache
the gloam blueing
worrying a little about the flies
hoping this limp-rag feeling
is gone by tomorrow

I love “The moon is sawed straight in half, velvetted/All else draped in orange glow”
Thanks, Shaun! It was certainly these lines that constituted enough of a beginning to sit down and see it through.
This feels like a self-portrait and I love it.
The tone of casual honesty and the determination to transform the environment (the plants) are such a crisp description of yourself. And your usual prescription for healing.
Well done.
Thank you, Tabby! I love your comment! Yes, I was playfully alluding to the pride I take in my work with the title. And you’re right, sometimes I push through anything to get it done, I guess I maybe cared for the plants a bit more than myself! Or rather, I got all caught up in doing stuff and forgot the basic self care. Lol! Classic. You know me well. Your lens has shed some light on this one for me. Thanks!
