History Lessons: Again
1960s,
the ”long hot summers”
when tinderbox cities
exploded
with black lives
that mattered,
still matter.
Now again
city after city,
again protests,
again police,
again brutality,
again
necks and knees
and point-blank range.
Again.
Those who do not know
history
are condemned
to repeat it.
Those who do
are condemned
to weep.
Again.

Isn’t this the truth!
Timely. Poignant. True.
Thank you for this important poem.
Sadly, yes.
Well done.
Thank you to all for your comments!
Repetition of again very effective. In fact I would consider the title of just Again
I think you are right about the title. Thanks.
How sad that every tiny victory must be won at such a price; the convulsion of a nation and a people to put in place humane treatment for our brown brothers.
So true, so sad.
My favorite read of the night.
