How to Love (a Garden in the Dark)
First, let the person you love know when you’ve seen the first lightning bug of the year. Alert her so you may have the chance to charm her and watch as it lifts off your arm while you are grilling dinner.

I love the narrative, instructional approach.
Second, let the sun go down.
Wonderful!
Thank you for sharing this poem.
Love “fit to woo the first lightning bug”, very sweet
So happy to be reading about lightning bugs/fireflies. They give hope!
Thank you! I was worried I wouldn’t see any.
Last year, we were lucky to see 3 at a time.
I like to keep a lot of the backyard wild, so that helps.
Idk how they stay alive in this neighborhood.

Beautiful.
Such a tender poem! And we ARE on a wavelength – I posted a garden poem with grilling this morning, too.
Beautiful! I have loved watching the garden in your poems this month.
