I found in the desk drawer
an empty mint tin
I may fill it with baby teeth
or a handful of pennies
to rattle and scare
the ghosts away,
or start a collection
of buttons
made of shell or bone
something to refill it
with purpose
But who I am fooling?
It will go back in drawer
keeping its promise

Wonderful !!!
Empty is good sometimes.
Nice poem.
what a subtle and airy poem filled with all kinds of longing
Love the “rattle and scare the ghosts away.” Really loaded image.
Whoa, nice little poem. Suggesting that one purpose of an empty tin is to stay empty?
evocative and interesting ending!
I really like the realism
of the ending
If you filled it, it wouldn’t be an empty mint tin any longer. I love it and will think long before filling another long-empty container.
