I’ll Even Make You Meatballs
This morning my heart broke
just a little
when you wanted the yellow crayon
instead of the lellow one.
Then I realized it has been a while
since you last requested peter butter
on your sandwich or skeptically tasted
a bite of tormato.
I will accept that we no longer check
the nailbox for letters each day after school,
but please, oh, please,
when I ask what you want for dinner tonight,
let me hear you say skaghetti
just one more time.

This rings so true — and captures the speed of time when the little ones are little. They change and grow so quickly, no matter how much we beg them not to.
Precious memories! I’m glad you wrote them down!
Save this poem for the kid. What a gem
What Linda said
Good gods, yes. My now 13 year old….I didn’t correct them, though I felt I should. They grow out of it regardless and this is a precious memory.
I never correct it either…it’s so sweet and you’re right, they learn anyway. My other older used to say he was “drinky” instead of thirsty. He’s 7 now and I still miss that.
Read the “I never correct it…” After I had written those words. Love it.
beautiful
Ahhhhh. SOOOO FELT. Brought a tear to my eye, because those innocent “mistakes” while learning somehow sort of define pure toddlerhood/childhood. And we want to hold tightly to that innocence as long as possible.
Here is a piece of hope: My 9 year year old still (unequivocally) says “ba-sketti”
I do not correct her.
Ever.
Aww! My little guy is 4 going on 5, getting ready to go to Kindergarten. He’s my baby, so I’m feeling all the growing pains and trying to hang on to the last bits of him being this little! I know I’m going to miss it. Here’s to hoping they never learn to say spaghetti! 😉
Awwww. Such a lovely sadness when they’re growing up & away from us.
Crying because I just can’t even…
How could anyone not read a poem with this title?
I have two words many parents can relate too. They are amusing.
FIRE TRUCK.
That is all.
