In a dream
an octopus pressed
purpled flesh against cool glass,
slowly opened one
keen humanoid eye and cocked
a quizzical brow at me.

Very nice word choice in this poem. BTW have you read “Remarkably Bright Creatures”? You’d enjoy it!
Yes!! I read that and then sought out the book The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery soon after because I found the octopus in the novel so fascinating. They really are incredible animals!
There’s also the documentary My Octopus Teacher. Great poem!
I’ll have to check it out! Thanks!
Quizzical is a fantastic word and works really nicely here, great little poem
Oh now I’m wondering what to dream of an octopus means. I think they are fascinating, too. So wonderfully unique.
Very cool imagery
You nailed the octopus through human eyes.
As if to say, “What am I doing in your dream, lady?”
nicely done!
This is a glorious poem! The imagery is bold.
Yes Yes– what everyone’s saying.
But: Did you feed the octopus?
Would have loved to! It was just that snippet. I woke up and wanted more!
And scientists tell us they are very intelligent….
The clarity and effectiveness of this image is written perfectly!
