Inheritance II
a focus on trauma
eclipses
the inheritance of
joy
that kept our ancestors
dreaming
the
future (us)
pulling stars down
and
braiding them into
songs
that rippled waves
across
laughing bellies.
“we are the sum of our ancestors”
means
the joy
is there,
too.

Beautiful and rich!
Thank you for sharing such gorgeous imagery of hope with all of us.
Really like how the image of the flag is invoked in me between mention of the stars and rippled waves. Enhances the poem very well.
This is tough. 😎
lest we forget❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love “pulling stars down/and/braiding them into/songs,” a lovely image of a collectivism.
