It’s been a fine potluck
It’s been a fine potluck, don’t you agree?
Compliments and recipes exchanged,
some of the dishes about licked clean,
enough for everybody to take a plate home.
I didn’t bring what I’d call my best:
some were clean-out-the-freezer concoctions,
others simmered a long while on low
and still tasted undercooked,
and a few I threw together, last minute.
I used my late mother-in-law’s method on my favorites–
sipping a little somethin’ while stirring.
Hard to push yourself away, isn’t it?
Lordy though, it’s late,
and I am stuffed!

What a great metaphor for our month! Thank you for sharing. See you next year.
Thanks! I will suffer for a week from withdrawal. Cheers to this and future Junes.
This is absolutely delightful! I think we all can see ourselves here whether it was cleaning out the freezer or serving the under cooked “concoction.” Yes, but how good to stuff ourselves!! Thanks for your goodies.
Very humorous and right on. I’ve got a poetry hangover but it was worth it!
Fantastic way of thinking about it – some days I threw what I could find in the pot and tried to show up looking half decent lol! I’ve enjoyed reading your work Sue!
love those last two lines–the diction, sentiment, and spacing
Delicious!
Love “sipping a little somethin’ while stirring.” — the best way to cook. Thanks for all your wonderful poems this month.
