Japanese knotweed
as a boy
I’d hide under the canopy
from the burning hot sun
and those heavy things
that a boy can’t put
into words
watch the cars glide down
the gravel road
and pretend
they were people
that I loved
coming to take me away

I enjoyed this. On a side note, you can eat the tops of knotweed its kinda like asparagus. I only mention it because nobondy seems to talk about knotweed. If you have some growing you can eat it. One of the best restaurants I’ve worked in had a knotweed dish. I’m not joking. Dredge it in corn starch and a touch of flour, add garlic or onion powder if you like.
Such a wonderfully quiet poem that evokes a boy’s desire to be loved. (Knotweed may be a delicacy but it’s an invasive you don’t want to get started in your pasture field)
