Kids Who Are Abused
Kids who are abused
are often confused.
They think
that they
are to blame,
blurring
the reason
to gripe
or complain,
they continue
to suffer in silence.

I like the shape of this poem on the page, the arc of suffering. Sometimes these kids also seek suffering when things are peaceful as it is what they know or think they deserve.
Yes, peace or stillness can be scary when all known was chaos. And if they intentionally create the chaos themselves, then at least they have control… Heartbreaking indeed.
Thank you. And yes, like an arc of suffering,
dull or sharpe, and as curved as the blade of a sickle.
Oh, yes. As a social worker, I know this quite well. Thank you for honoring the abused and hurting children.
Your form and intentional breaks force power out of each line.
