laundry day
before this rain moved in.
i can see it from the kitchen window
neglected and whipping in the wind,
it used to be pulled taut and tight
but now the line’s just sad
and sagging.
we’ve both seen better days.
i hung my heart out to dry
while the sun was still shining.
i thought for sure that blood and tears
would evaporate.
i put my heart up wet
with the weight of lost love
and hefty good intentions.
i put my heart up wet
cause it’s often proved too big
and things tend to shrink up
when they’re hung out to dry.

This is an exquisite read!
thank you so much Nancy! honestly, if it weren’t for LexPoMo this one probably would’ve ended up in my scrap pile. i’m so happy to see people enjoyed the read.
beautiful poem, Misty!
Whoa. That ending perfect and unexpected.
Terrific poem.
