Lonely Reflections At 32
You have to do something to distinguish yourself.
It’s unfair.
Some people don’t have to do anything, truly.
But this life is about what you can do for somebody,
Not who you are.
A time of immediate pleasure and reward.
Not one of validation.
Yourself is the only place to store an investment,
Absolutely positive no other hands are attempting to steal you.
In uncertainty, the heart will play.
We are at the mercy of other’s intent.
We should appreciate ourselves more.
We’re the only reliance we can ensure in this life.
It was always going to be lonely.

Great true and very real sentiment. Thank you for expressing it in a poem.
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my poem! I really appreciate it. Sometimes, the acknowledgement of a shared sentiment is worth the most.
I like the metaphor of self investment and the tangible “stealing”. This is a strong one.
Just the life I live, Miss. Thank you for reading 😋
