Manatee Tanka
Gray boulders litter
sun-warmed waters of the bay.
Sweet whiskered nostrils
surface, scoop up balmy air.
Magic, slow-moving mermaids.

Oh they are my spirit animal! Love this tanka.
Endangered, sadly. Thanks for this tribute.
Very sweet poem!
Love this sweet and mysterious call to one of my favorites creatures!
I like how the first two lines set up the next three and how “sun-warmed” parallels “slow-moving” and how “slow-moving” starts with and “s” and “mermaids” ends with an “s”
Love this! Got to swim with them bumping against me at Crystal River! They are like big puppies nudging and bumping for attention!
Ahh, Linda, we need to talk about this!! That is a bucket list item for me!
Love seems to govern this poem and it is lovely! Thank you!
