Mealtime
She gently dabs the dribble
from the corners of his mouth
before attempting to give him
another spoonful of oatmeal,
all the while wondering
if her father had this much
trouble feeding her
when she was a child.

Dennis, this poem brought me to so many places….. the nursing home, the kitchen with an infant in a high chair….and then, to a mom with the special needs child….. all drew out tears of emotion….
This squeezes my heart. So much love here.
“dabs the dribble”–I like having the concrete detail catch my attention before getting to the heavy stuff.
poignant
and the great quetion of our day:
will we take care of our elders?
This one really got me emotional this morning. I love it, more importantly, I love you.
Thank you to all for the wonderful comments!
Before going to the reunion, perhaps…
I think this would be far past the reunion.
This was great! I had become accustomed to the reunion poems though… they were equally intriguing.
Thank you. As I tried to write more reunion poems, I didn’t want to touch on one specific problem of one of my classmates. That’s why I changed gears. I do have an additional five reunion poems written before June. Thanks!
