Memorial
After driving all day
I walk out between grave markers
and sigh among the fallen heroes.
I know no one here
knows who I am.
And then I hear it:
the crackling of fireworks,
the celebratory rockets in the sky,
someone somewhere having a blast,
and I explode. I finally explode.
No one I know
knows where I am.

Tom – Interesting poem. I have read it three times and get a different understanding each time. Maybe it depends on where my attention falls – sighing among fallen heroes (sadness), fireworks (celebration), explode (anger). Maybe all of the above!
Thanks for reading!
I agree with Sylvia- this poem can have different meanings depending on which perspective the reader lands on.
Thanks Linda.
I know no one here

No one I know

These lines especially caught my attention, Tom.
Thanks Melva.
Great line breaks! Each line takes on its own meaning and changes in a longer context. And I admire the way you play with language. I especially like the same lines as Melva Sue:
I know no one here
knows who I am.
No one I know
knows where I am
