Mi Corazon
More guns than people in the USA
Over 20 million assault rifles
Try to round them up
and you’ll spawn another Waco
It’s not even a Mexican standoff –
the guns already won
shootings now routine as stormy weather
an inconvenience, like traffic or inflation
What we need to watch for is January 6
exploding like tulips in spring
across the nation, loaded with justification
and rationalization and all the glorious guns
Until we learn what holds a country together
we won’t understand what’s tearing it apart

Nice couplet & sound work throughout. The whole feel + title starts the Clash tune “Spanish Bombs” going in my head- and I love that.
not to mention… all the ammo-
specialized bullets for:
every breed of creature
every creed of man
Concise, compact, cogent. Not a word wasted and so full of wisdom. Love the juxtaposition of guns with nature (storms and tulips). And that last stanza…just “wow.”
A very uncluttered and truthful poem. Well done!
The last line says it so well!
Heartbreaking we have come to the point of “inconvenience.” Sad that so many people see the “beauty” in guns while we see that beauty in lives and “tulips.”
Strong, compact, sad.
Thanks everyone for the comments!
wow, Mike, the last stanza is a hammer.
great last couplet! great title! good one, Mike!
