Morning Walk, Nerinx, Kentucky
Moon walks in her sleep
hushed by morning’s clouds.
My silence, skin deep,
belies pain’s moans
within, where breeze
cannot bewitch
and birdsong jeers
in off-key chit-chat.

Nancy – thanks for taking us along on your walk! Great first line, and I always love birds jeering!
chit-chattering jeers. nice
“where breeze/ cannot bewitch”: conveys distraction and hurt so well

Beautiful portrait of a morning stroll!
Nancy, from my porch perch I saw part of your morning walkings. This is truly lovely. Especially love:
Moon walks in her sleep
hushed by morning’s clouds.

sounds the place to be
The mix of beauty & pain in this poem is so powerful. And what a wonderful opening line!
This poem demonstrates the way every word is important.
Lovely portrayal of sights and sounds contrasted again inner pain.
The verbs in this convey so much. Great job!
