my eurydice
you got bit
and went
down
and i went
after you
with
my song
everywhere
to everyone
my song rang out to all and even
the dark and sullen creatures;
it worked.
they all
melted,
bowed and said
okay, come and
get your love
back
and i
went down
down
and deep
and found
your essence
and said shh
follow
me up and
up and up and up
and out and out and out
and i could not hear you say
yes and yes and yes but i must trust
you are behind me while you must trust
i know the way.

immensely enjoyed. harkens to the classic era of contemporary free-verse 30 years ago; back when poems felt like they were actually trying to say something besides “look at how genius my creator is”…
i echo dirt as well. <3
Thank you so much. I’m really pleased that I made something universal (ish) out of a very intimate situation.
beautiful poem. love the way the line breaks enhance the rhythm and pull you powerfully down the piece. the repetition is spot on. would like to hear you read it.
I can hear your voice reciting in my
head–” up and up and up”…
it’s always great to read a poem that’s hopeful but not overtly optimistic in a Norman Vincent Peake sorta way: that is, false optimism.
All of what’s been said already above.
