NINE DAYS
Nine days
Of no responsibility
Except to myself
Nine days
Absorption of
New sounds, sights and smells
Nine days
Of attempting to
Speak and understand a different language
Nine days
1500 miles in a car
Thinking new thoughts, jettisoning old ones
Nine days
9 hours at sea
In calm, chop and rain
Nine days
Awash in negative ions
Toes in the sand
Nine days
And I’ve been burnished
And shine with a new luster

This sounds so wonderful and relaxing, I’m low-key jealous.
Nice repetition and flow! I especially love the line, “Thinking new thoughts, jettisoning old ones.” I kinda want two more stanzas! And more days for you!
I am convinced that there is something magical about 9 days–maybe the repetition helps to drive it home and the list of good manifestations while being away.. I love how straight forward with clarity this poem is–thank you!
