no lifeguard on duty
underwrung and ladderhigh
if i had another puff
or had forgotten
all about dragons.
but i’m not so sure
they ever did exist
if they did they’d’ve
taught us to fly-
in wingspans
measured in miles
in featherfalls of flight
with fingertips spread
over piles of earthless night
interested in the nameless ones
(at the bottom of the sea)

every couplet is complete
and the-imagist narrative force
brings it to the bottom
of the sea
I love this poem
relinquish control–
to saltbound thrust..
You made me forget I was reading – that isn’t easily done.
I came here to say this, Manny!
Very nice and conjuring of gorgeous visuals down to terrifying depths.
We are , you are, all are in this.
Wow!
Flight, alone together and guided.
Content and form like wings in thin air.
” measured in miles.”
a couple little things peskily pester me-
like the second line i wish there was a ‘took’
(to cram in another double letter word)
((the double ‘oo’ being the horniest of theese))
but i’m not not mad ‘as is’ with the had-had.. 🙂
thanks as always, for reading!
I love it that the dragon goes from the air to the bottom of the sea! Excellent piece.
Delightful, Dustin. Turns out you’re a romantic. Who knew?

Wish I named mine Hadal instead of Hades to be a sister poem but oh well, love it. If only we’d all have another puff.
I love the sounds here, great images and balance.
Loved “in featherfalls of flight/with fingertips spread/over piles of earthless night”

I especially like how you measure.
