Noctivagant
the city center,
bright bustle,
young bodies, or
young at heart
looking, under the
incessant skyglow, for
something–
a laugh,
or a love
some travel in a pack,
a few, more desperate,
alone
but all are looking
for one thing,
or another–
something to give,
or something to take
beating hearts,
pleading flesh,
each one,
a soul
unto itself

the short lines get at the restlessness
Thank you, Gaby.
Nice! This reminds me of Sondheim’s song “Another Hundred People” from his musical Company.
I adore Sondheim! Thank you so much, Kevin! You are an encouraging and kind person!
This is outstanding! I love the rhythm and the tight lines. Well done!
Wow! Thank you, H.A.!
Agree with others re tight lines exuding restlessness and rhythm.
Love:

Thank you very much, Pam!
Love the word “noctivagant.” Your poems this month have been a revelation to me. Very inspiring. I missed several days, so I look forward to going back this summer and reading them all! Thanks, Laura.
My goodness, you are so kind Sylvia! I am humbled and grateful for your support!
I love the movement in this. Nice breaks that create pauses, much like the “young bodies or young at heart” may have paused to ascertain the surroundings/mood.
Very kind–thank you, Virginia!
