Not Thinking About It
I am not thinking about it,
Nope, not thinking about today.
Not picturing the chair you’d sit,
Or how you’d beg us just to stay.
Nope, I won’t think about the days
When you’d rush me from here to there,
And not all the sayings you’d say,
Or how you’d tried to fix my hair.
No, I’m not in the space for this,
Busy-body myself I will
All levels of thoughts I dismiss
Verifying, yep, I’m unhealed.
So, Happy Father’s Day to you!
And Happy Father’s Day to me!
The good ones, as we know, are few
And the best of them all just leave

I like how this poem highlights the ineffectiveness of denial as a long-term coping strategy and how unhealed emotional wounds resurface.
You always affirm my words and capture the deeper level what they convey. I think you deeply for this.
