paper route
does anyone still
rush out
in the early morning
dew clings to grass
birds sing the sun
reaching for a message
delivered by hand
in the mailbox
on the front step
accidentally tangled in the hedge
who is still reading?
black ink on thin paper
black ink on fingers
misaligned color photographs
misaligned politic
shouldn’t we all still
seek daily education?

me me me…. i love newspapers. The feel, the smell, and occasionally, what is written on it’s pages. 🙂 Thank you!
Memory of an older generation.
I have watched newspapers die. My husband was a talented reporter–pushed into early retirement so the paper could save money. Further dumbing down of our nation, and fewer watchdogs, too.
I like “birds sing the sun.”
I was a newspaper reporter for 30-years and appreciate this poem a lot!
