Recurring Nightmares of a Directional Dyslexic
I’m in high school horseback at summer camp
the hall is crowded I’m leading a guided ride
bell is about to ring I’ve come this way a hundred times
but I can’t find my locker and the trees look suddenly different
I don’t know where my classroom is the trail grows unfamiliar
come to think of it this new horse doesn’t know the way to the barn
I haven’t shown up to class all semester it’s getting late, the sun’s going down
and today is the final exam I’ve managed to get us all lost out here
I am such an idiot and everyone is about to find out.

Thanks for such a fun month, everyone! My poetry tank is running on E, but I’m also sad that it’s over. Until next time! <3
Thanks for your visits to my poems! This one of yours is so accurate to the way our subconscious takes us to visit our frustrations!
Best of luck to you! Until next year!
Always a delight to read your poems, this one is no exception. The “everyone is about to find out” hits so close to home.
I’ve had many variants of this dream, Chelsie! Wonderful writing this month—I hope to see more of it soon at Poezia.
I should hopefully be there next time!
I want to come to Poezia!
Do it!
You may be “running on empty” but you’rr knocking out of the park as far as I’m concerned. A contrapuntal! I’ve only written one and it just about killed me.
what a fun form capped with a perfect title
I’m also directionally dyslexic.
It’s more of a handicap than
most people know (Thank God
I had the sign of the cross to lean
on for the rest of my life)
I’ve loved reading your poems all month:
an absolute delight.
I so am thankful to be living in the time of the GPS. It really does make things challenging sometimes! Thank you for your kind words; I have enjoyed your poems as well!
Love this contrapuntal and:
this new horse doesn’t know the way to the barn
Chelsie- all of your poems have been a delight! Really enjoyed all of them! Thanks for sharing!
anxious-making.
i appreciate your
commitment to a
lack of ‘release’..
but sort of feel like
now i need a
cigarette or a shot.. 🙂
best of luck out there
filling up your ‘tank’
It’s an amazing work, Chelsie. The title sets it up, then you actually invite us to rearrange your own poem to make something different every time. Brilliant! I knew from our Gauntlet experience that you were a good poet, but I didn’t know until this Lexpomo just how great you actually are! I’ve enjoyed reading everything you write. I learned so much from you, and all the poets I have read.
I love this poetic form and your deft handling of it!
Innovative, evocative, and descriptive–qualities I’ve enjoyed about this poem and your body of work this month. Thank you for sharing it.
I’ve enjoyed your work so much and I’m looking forward to reading more! Thank you for a great month!
Thanks for all your comments this month, Chelsea! Bummer the cento didn’t work out for you. I work well in chaos and with associative leaps / collage… so centos match my energy. Your poems are really clear narratives and have such gems of imagery in them. I can see how that would be hard to collage. You’d just have to find the right scaffolding and then I bet you’d have a cool “curio cabinet” of your month of stories! There’s always time to try again with some distance.
I’ve enjoyed your work this month. Glad you got a lot of new drafts out of it! Me too! Cheers!
