Ridgeback
He was doomed.
Lacking the stripe
of backward growing hair
on his back
the Ridge.
Not meeting standards.
Breeder willing
to sacrifice him
for lack of perfection.
Grace from
Rescue Rhodesians
saved him.
We humans are above
such rules of perfection
for our own
or are we?

Good question! Glad he was rescued. Much of the world seems to value the outside “looks” perfection, when it is the inside we need to value.
Yes I agree! I was shocked when Justin told me this story about his rescued Rhodesian ridgeback dog from Germany who has crossed over to the rainbow bridge.
Nice poem. And I agree with Sylvia.
The ridgeback is the preferred dog to hunt big cats with, especially lions. I think your last name translates with its own value. I taught German, my college major, for many years.
Good question How are we like the rest of the animal world
