Rise and Shine
Lolling in bed
eyes shut, I say,
“The morning is running
away from us.”
You reply, “We’ll run
after it,” as you brush my arm.
So I hoist myself upright,
hobble forward, and greet
the waiting cat, who gallops
down the stairs, as I follow,
step by careful
step.

I totally feel this poem and the photo is fantastic.

I just love that exchange.
Beautiful photo to accompany this poem, Gaby.
Right out of your life! Like Kevin, I can feel this poem. It’s delightful!
I adore the dialogue that opens this poem! So relatable and whimsical.
You make an ordinary moment sublime!
Love the dialogue that opens and springs this poem forward and the pic of the waiting cat.
The intimacy and tenderness of tone here is masterful. I love how much you say with movement here–of the subjects in the poem and the line breaks.
