Road Trip | Lebanese Bakery
The Lebanese bakery
holds a case as long as a boat.
Inside swims baklava, bird’s nests,
a troop of kibbe, a flock of fatayer.
Among the fatoosh and malfoof,
a pool of baba ghanooj!
Thanks so much for the ride,
I’ll have the shish tawook.

I love the vivid imagery and playfulness of this poem–it dances on the tongue.
Those pastry names seem to unleash the magic of words in the 1001 Nights–abracadabra, open sesame, alf laylah wah laylah.
A tasty poem–no kidding…
