Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary Fund Raiser
Seventy years old, arthritis-ridden,
scruffy-feathered, his back
to others — a survivor
of the Aztec bird heaven.
No onlookers pet this rescued creature,
a Mealy Amazon perched in the sun,
flying days over. On earth
the wind gently ruffles his feathers.

That is one old parrot! I love the poem Gaby, it goes well with the picture. 🙂
I really like “survivor / of the Aztec bird heaven.” I like how you grant this old fellow mythic status. He’s earned it.
An eco-poem for the rough-feathered old guy.
His age and loneliness are so well described.
This makes me sad. Thank you for honoring him.
You capture the spirit of this elder in picture and words. Well done!
Gaby – I love that the wind is giving the bird the feel of flight, even though it can’t fly anymore.
Your pictures and poems are always a delight to see and read. This one is no different — what a resilient, old bird!
