screening
red bud ablaze white
chalice of pear
banquet
of buttery light
meadow lark trills
on heated branch blossoms
sprinkle the breeze scent
the earth rich loam sifts
through eager fingers planting
seeds
of sweet resilience
my body gulps
the warmth quenches
parched bones
stiff muscles hustle
of lusty color wistful
counterpoint
to gray hair
pale skin
word pouring onto paper
before all vibrancy
drains
away

This is a bright and sensual poem. I love the ending, the truth of it.
love “stiff muscles hustle of lusty color”
the ending brings it all together!
Kathleen, I’ve let the lusty weeds grow wild out back so far this summer. Your poem makes me want to go out early tomorrow morning and soak up some of that rich energy 🙂
Kathleen, I love how you take that energy from nature and pour it into the poem! Also love how your body “gulps/ the warmth” and the repeated sounds of muscles, hustle, and lusty.
Love how you blend nature and your body….quenches parched bones!
I love the colors and vivid richness.
