Screw Inspiration
Today’s poem is inspired by this quote from Octavia Bulter:
“…write, every day, whether you like it or not. Screw inspiration.”
While waiting for the lightning bolt
Passion flames out
Diligent sitting remains
Dull, dreadful, delightful, daring
From the same mind extruded
Left-handed lines scrawl as
Pinky, ink smudged pushes
Thoughts filter, swirl, settle, rearrange
Settle, swirl, rearrange, filter,
Passion flames out
Diligent sitting remains
Thoughts rearrange, settle, swirl, filter
From the same mind extruded
Filter
Swirl
Rearrange
Settle

Spot on look at the process! Great first lines. All of us diligent sitters at one time or another!
screw inspiration — you don’t need it! well done.
I learned a really cool “method” from poet Keith Wilson, and yes, screw inspiration. LoL Keith says just write, brain dump on the page daily, no punctuation, no paragraphs, no edits. Keep doing this, and at some point, look back at something jotted down a week or two ago, and see what bubbles up. I REALLY had to retrain my approach, but it’s worth a try because, yeah, screw inspiration. LoL
Thank you for sharing this!
