sea turtle
i wonder
would i have been better off
never seeing you
in magazines
and on nature shows on PBS
sure,
my balcony looks out onto the lake
and i appreciate the
dog-paddling red eared sliders
really i do
but the ghosts
of you and your brothers surfing
the east australian current
haunt me
and i feel tugged to see you

Is it better to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune? We never really know the answer, do we?
Lovely work.
Thank you, K. Bruce….. yes, some things we’ll never know….. I think my best bets here, are to live vicariously through my son,,,, who gets to travel the world…. or….. come back, next life, as a sea turtle….. ?
“i feel tugged to see you” I love the ending. Good poem!
Thank you, Dennis ✨
I, too, liked the ‘tugged to see you.’ It accurately conveys the feeling you’re expressing.
Thank you, Mike ?
Turtles are cool. Save the turtles.
Agreed! ?
I loved this, really felt connected to the subject
Thank you, Shaun ✨
ghosts tugging is good. the beginning makes me think about how we don’t even know all that’s disappearing. And when after it’s gone, we can’t even remember what was there (creatures, languages, undersea level art in Egypt…)
Yes, Gaby…..you’re right… some things we can’t see because of distance, or circumstance…..and others, as you said, because they are no longer here to be seen….. I hope the tiniest seeds we planted in our children, grow into a generation that brings hope, new species, new beginnings….. I hope
