September Leaves
start to sprawl
on half-scorched lawns
like summer girls
late to the beach.
They flaunt once-green hips
dappled red and yellow,
begin to swing and fling
themselves from branches,
carefree, as if life is a party
and they are too
young, too beautiful to die.

So much good.
Very original metaphor well played out.
I really enjoyed this poem!
The flaunt once green hips! Love this, love what you’ve been sharing.
Like summer girls late to the beach- fantastic metaphor! Loved this!
I enjoyed this! A different take on autumn leaves. Great poem
Exactly what Coleman said!
especially love the penultimate line break “too / young” for the double entendre
Oh, those once-green hips!
flaunt once green
Lovely.
As if life is a party and they are too young too beautiful to die. Nice personification all through
Wow. Late to the beach. Flaunting. Hips. Too young…
