Signatures
The tip of my finger submits
ejaculating ink along
the electronic receipt
No resistance
The loops of my Hs and Ls last until the edge
of the screen
Every signature
a work of art
Effortless
as silk screens
from Warhol’s factory
I do this
again and again
with every coffee
I buy
Sound trivial?
Once upon a time
many
many
many
couldn’t read or write

love the sounds and rhythm in:
“ejaculating ink along
the electronic receipt”
haha, yes! “Every signature
a work of art”
Thought provoking poem, Lee, with a twist at the end. Well done sir.
Slight revision:
The tip of my finger submits
ejaculating virtual ink
along the electronic receipt
No resistance
The loops of my Hs and Ls last
until the edge
of the screen
Every signature
a work of art
Effortless
as silk screens
from Warhol’s factory
I do this
again and again
with every coffee
I buy
Sound trivial?
Once upon a time
many
many
many

This is a very relateable poem, but my signature on those things never looks like the signature I put on paper. LoL The repetition of this in our lives is expressed so well in you poem. It reminds me of years ago when I read that we’d eventually stop using cash and do everything with cards. Now we even have taps! LoL
25% of Kentucky’s adults are functionally illiterate. 43M adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Tragic.
What a thoughtful poem!
