Solitaire, My New Transition, Gets Me Through The Dementia Stories He Can Not Help Making Up
Once my transition—
the five minute drive to work, the pause
at the light, the left hand turn.
Just a need between
students and my personal life.
Now I shift between
the next maze
and the next heedful task.

the inbetween spaces…
well written.
Thanks, Dustin.
You had me at “Solitaire.”
Thanks.
I’m not quite sure I understand the dramatic situation here but maybe it doesn’t matter. I feel the sense of limbo.
The sense of limbo is spot on, Kevin. Thanks.
thank you for making transitions desirable
They really are. Thanks.
Often my friends counsel to seek for the next right thing, you totally had me as it built right up to “heedful task.” The very human, empty-purposefulness of this piece was lovely.
Thanks for your close reading, Manny.
This is so well done. It’s so important to give oneself time and space for transitions.
Especially when difficult transitions are needed. Thanks.
I hear you and love this poem. Sometimes the car was the only space I had. Sometimes it is, still.
“just a need between.”
Yes, Roberta. Very yes.
This poem really moves me. I’m in a similar situation.
I’ll send you light for your cares, Carole. It’s hard isn’t it.
Wow! The title does so much work here. I love how you didn’t explain any more about the situation’s specifics in the poem. It’s so much more powerful this way!
Thanks, Ellen. That can be one task the title can do.
