Sometimes, A Dull Woman
is a car stuck in traffic
a spark-sputtering machine
running low on gospel
June bug violating the windshield

That is the first time I have ever seen those three words together.
Love it. “June bug violating”
Nice !
Nice addition to the series.
love the use of the word “gospel” as fuel and how the bug and windshield are flipped and, of course, the strong verb “violating”
Never a dull moment, especially when stuck in traffic when low on fuel, sparking and June bugs.
This poem is a great example of how strong word choice can add so much weight to a tiny poem. Well done.
Compact picture, adroitly painted here, of a fellow human. She is adeptly drawn with dignity and respect as only being “Sometimes, A Dull Woman.” Rich, evocative imagery and detail.
I love “kickstart” poems, e.g. the ones where the title is a living part of the poem. And it works so very well in this poem.
I didn’t interpret “being low on gospel” as gospel being a metaphor for fuel as in gasoline or electricity. Maybe I’m off in left field, but I interpreted it as being low on that which sustains the spirit.
And oh, that last line!
Amen: “a spark-sputtering machine/running low on gospel” I love how you paint a complete scene so tightly here.
You’re a magician Silvia!
love the Dull Woman!
Brilliant: “June bug violating the windshield”
“spark-sputtering machine” is great!
