Sometimes, A Tree
is a brain wave
in a woman’s remembered
understory
an electrical pulsing
of bark and bloom
whimsical sunset companion
vivid ripples waiting
wanting only
to be acknowledged
as a keepsake
the glory
how light baptizes leaves
For Stella

Love this series, Sylvia! Also the last two lines have a photographer’s eye. Wonderful.
Stella is honored! It’s beautiful.
Assuming you wrote this about Stella!
Absolutely!
“wanting only
to be acknowledged
as a keepsake
the glory
how light baptizes leaves ”
Absolutely brilliant!

GORGEOUS! the very title/opening grabbed me…’sometimes a tree/is a brain wave’…. (goosebumps)
I like the pulse of movement in this poem, how it keeps driving forward until the end.
This poem flows so well. Its beauty permeates my day. . . as I know I will be thinking of it all day! Wonderful write!
Amazing “Sometimes” series. I love the flow of this and the connection of persona to the natural world. Of bark and bloom= ingenious.
I love every word and line, but especially “understory” and the last two lines.
Thanks, Sue. I borrowed the word from Linda Bryant’s poem about her tree Stella. She used the word about Stella; I leaned it toward the woman’s story. It is a great word!
Gorgeous.
Love: a woman’s remembered
understory
I too loved the use of what I call a “kick start opening,” e.g. using the title to lead directly into the text of the poem. Philip Larken used this device a lot. And then, the ending is just as impactful — if not more. What an outstanding last line!
So lovingly written, Sylvia. The ending is scrumptious!
Wonderful! What a visceral tribute to Stella, about your friend. I read her piece earlier and this really compliments hers.
This poem has such an electricity. You had me at the beginning: “Sometimes, A Tree/is a brain wave/in a woman’s remembered/understory”
Beautiful, beautiful poem, Sylvia
Really enjoying this series of poems. So satisfying.
