Sometimes we like to jump
Into the puddle of a poem
already wet. Sometimes we don’t
like it. We also like to be placed
into the puddle of a poem
or a shallow sea that suddenly drops.
Poets sometimes gently lead you
into the puddle of a poem
already wet. Sometimes we don’t.
There are other ways
into a deep pool with rules.
Possibly a quick turn.
There are other ways.
A title can be a threshold,
a platform to help the reader connect.
There are other ways
into a deep pool with rules.
Sometimes we jump.

Perfect audience for this meta-poem by way of the reader’s entry. Love.
Thank you Gaby
It’s a triolet sans the rhyme scheme. Well done. You are above my pay grade.
Lol….I married up π happy 6 monthaversary eve π
I jumped in your puddle without a paddle π
No wire paddles π
Cannonball! Canon Ball?
π the Canon also fires π
I really like these concepts, well done!
Thank you jst. It’s fun. Trying to find the form that fits
I feel like I write poems like this – jumping in the middle already wet then I have to figure out how on earth did I get here. I love the image of it. Thank you!
Arwen, that is a great visual. Swimming in alphabet soup using wordcraft as safety floaties…..love it π
I love how the title returns as a denouement here and re-energizes the poem
Thanks for that comment. It was a 50/50 edit on that specifically.
I think you may have saved it π
Love it. I still don’t know what I’m doing, but this gives me permission to paddle around.
Me too π
The genesis of this poem was funny.
It came from a conversation Linda and I were having about sequencing when one of us said ” the thing about a good title is that it let’s you walk into the pool of a poem already wet.”
We both stopped mid thought, and just started laughing. Word geeks.
Wonderful conversation sentence and true definition of a good title.
I love how the title and last line bookends in a way that moves from passive thought to action.
Thank you Pam, and thank you for seconding the survival of the extra line. It’s in.
I like how your title is the threshold. It pulled me in.
Really like the repetitions in this and the line
“A title can be a threshold,
a platform to help the reader connect.”
which, as others have stated, yours does. Such a measured voice. I really enjoyed it.
