Stormy Night of Canine Ainst (the Dansa)
Be still fur-baby, tomorrow awaits
Tho lightning flashes and thunder does howl
Midnight rabid emerald whirlwinds growl
And barking cerulean blue tears fall
Be still fur-baby, tomorrow awaits.
Turn from night cry roars, loud as o’l screech owl
From anxiety swirling ov’r cheek jowl
Claim star eclipsed exemption, now I call
Be still fur-baby, tomorrow awaits.
Come cuddle with warm hope, no longer prowl
Shroud scent of twilight rose teasing afoul
Safe now with me remain in these walls
Be still fur-baby, tomorrow awaits.
When skies stop weeping, wet covered by towel
Dark vulnerability disavowal
Promised morning will dawn – once and for all
Be still fur-baby, tomorrow awaits.

I didn’t get much sleep last night – the storms always upset one of my standard poodles to no end. On these occasions we allow the nearly 80-pound scaredy cat to sleep with us in the bed. Like a small child, he seems to find a way to flow into every corner of space and assuming I could sleep through the noise, there is little sleep when he is so frightened and in need. This poem was inspired by our experience last night. I hope you slept better than I.
This is delightful, even though I’m sorry y’all had such a rough night. The form works very well.
